Is the app available yet?

Western Construction Calculator is in final testing and not yet published to Google Play. See the home page for the latest status.

Does voice input work offline?

Voice input uses your device's built-in speech recognition service, which may require a network connection depending on your device and Android version. The rest of the app -- every calculator function -- works fully offline.

Why feet-inch-fraction instead of decimal?

Because that's how a tape measure reads. Values are stored as an exact count of 1/64" ticks internally, so repeated add/subtract never drifts the way decimal/floating-point math can.

What can I calculate with it?

Feet-inch-fraction arithmetic, stairs (risers/treads/stringers), roofing (rafters, pitch, hip/valley/jack framing), board feet, circles and arcs, regular polygons, area/volume conversions, roof material takeoffs, and weight estimates from material density. See the Manual page for details on each.

I found a bug -- what should I include in my report?

Email us with what you entered, what you expected, and what the app showed instead. Screenshots help a lot.

Can I suggest a new feature or improvement?

Yes! Many of the best ideas come from people who use the app on real job sites. If you have a suggestion for a new calculator, a time-saving feature, or an improvement to the existing tools, we'd love to hear it. Send us an email describing your idea and how it would help. Every suggestion is read and considered for future versions of Western Construction Calculator.
